Enhancing Campaign Creation
with a WYSIWYG Editor

My role: UX Research, UX, UI

CauseMatch Project

Overview

As part of a broader effort to empower users on our crowdfunding platform, we identified the need to improve the campaign creation experience. The previous builder was form-based and lacked visual feedback, making it difficult for users to understand how their campaigns would appear to potential donors.

To address this, we introduced a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor—a live, visual page builder allowing users to design their campaign pages in real time with full layout visibility and control.

Identified Problems

No Visual Feedback

Users had no clear way to preview their campaign's look until it was published, leading to frustration and guesswork.

High Entry Barrier

Formatting content required technical knowledge or trial-and-error with HTML/Markdown inputs.

Increased Support Load

Many users needed support calls or manual assistance to format or finalize their campaigns.

WYSIWYG Campaign Editor

Key Features

Live Visual Editing

To enhance clarity during editing, each section in the editor scrolls the user directly to the corresponding area on the live page. This helps users immediately understand which part they’re modifying. Text and image changes are reflected in real time, making the editing experience more intuitive and seamless.

Drag-and-Drop Interface

Modular blocks for text, images, videos, donation widgets, and more

Prioritizing Mobile Responsiveness

Data showed that around 70% of campaign traffic came from mobile devices, meaning most donations were being made via mobile. In response, we enhanced the editor’s mobile experience by adding a dedicated mobile preview and setting it as the default view during image upload. This encouraged users to optimize their pages for mobile, ensuring a smoother and more effective donor experience where it matters most.

Outcomes & Impact

Faster

45% Reduction in the average time to complete a campaign setup

Clearer

30% Decrease in support requests related to campaign building and formatting

Simpler

High satisfaction: Many users provided positive feedback on the simplicity, clarity, and speed of the new editor. And how much the new editor gave them confidence while building their campaign.

more Friendly

Increased User Independence: Many users completed their campaigns before even attending onboarding or tutorial calls—and had already submitted them for final review.
This demonstrated that the user experience was intuitive and highly accessible, even for first-time users..
